Good strategy, Rachel! Those items you've outlined, though, are already indicated in my team member's daily report.

I am using an idea from scrum technique in monitoring my team. I ask the developers to email me by the end of the day answering the ffg 3 questions:
 1. Things I have done today (includes bug number or details of the work)
 2. Things I am going to do tomorrow (only for tomorrow)
 3. Obstacles that hinders me from accomplishing my tasks and/or things that I need help

Although this is not followed almost everytime but that format helps me understand what I could be of help and what are the chaallenges that my team faces. It's better than just monitoring the keystrokes IMHO.
