Major Trends Affecting ICM
ICM (or Interactive Content Management) is crucial to the success of your website. Since, I’m project managing two websites, I need to constantly brush up on things that will make me more knowledgeable about web development.
One of the things that I need to know is ICM. I stumbled upon a video that discusses the major trends affecting ICM’s future. I forgot to bookmark the link of the video, though. Bad.
In any case, I’m sharing here these trends:
- Customer choice. Interactivity is big now. The more your customer or user is able to interact, do something while on your site, the better. He will definitely keep coming back.
- Long tail. Offer new business opportunities, or new media markets, such as online networking sites.
- Rich Internet apps. These applications, as mentioned in #1, engage customers, provide richer, interactive experience. So they can be in the form of widgets, drag & drop features.
- Pervasive media. This is another way to engage your users or customers. So you put rich communications by capturing videos. An example of this is the phenomenal, youtube.
Why do you need to do these things?
For the simple reason that the new customers now refer watching and interacting. Gone are the days that customers go online, surf the Web, and just read. They now want to get more involved in the Web experience. This is the reason for the proliferation and success of social networks.
This is what I call rich media experience. And if you are able to achieve this, your website will have a loyal, growing customer base.
